Our project illuminates trends in assassination attempts worldwide in 2019-2020. We analyzed the effects of countries’ politics, economics, and national security on the number of assassination attempts as well as the survival rate and prevention rate. We concluded that countries with Global Freedom Scores between 55-70, a higher GDP per Capita, and higher crime rates experience more assassinations. In addition, we found that countries with higher quality Political Leadership and more competent Law Enforcement achieve higher rates of assassination prevention. Finally, we deduced that countries with less arms trafficking had significantly higher rates of assassination survival. Thus, in order to mitigate and prevent assassination attempts, we recommend that countries focus on reducing crime rates, improving quality of governance, bolstering law enforcement resources, and decreasing arms trafficking.
